Frequently Asked Questions

Blockchain is a distributed, decentralized digital ledger that records transactions across a network of computers. Each "block" contains a group of transactions, and these blocks are linked together in a chronological "chain." The key innovation is that once data is recorded, it's extremely difficult to alter, creating a transparent and tamper-resistant system. This technology underpins cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin but has applications far beyond digital currency, including supply chain management, voting systems, and decentralized finance.

Cryptocurrency is still a relatively young asset class with significant room for growth and adoption. While early investors in Bitcoin and Ethereum saw extraordinary returns, the space continues to evolve with new technologies, use cases, and investment opportunities. The key is to educate yourself thoroughly before investing, understand the risks involved, only invest what you can afford to lose, and take a long-term perspective. Our guides can help you make informed decisions.

Keeping your cryptocurrency safe involves several best practices: use a hardware wallet (like Ledger or Trezor) for long-term storage, enable two-factor authentication on all exchange accounts, never share your seed phrase or private keys with anyone, be vigilant about phishing attacks, use strong unique passwords with a password manager, and consider using a dedicated device for crypto transactions. Our comprehensive security guide covers all these topics in detail.

DeFi (Decentralized Finance) refers to financial services built on blockchain networks that operate without traditional intermediaries like banks. Instead of a bank, smart contracts (self-executing code) handle lending, borrowing, trading, and earning interest. DeFi protocols allow you to lend your crypto to earn interest, borrow against your holdings, trade tokens on decentralized exchanges, and provide liquidity to earn fees. While DeFi offers exciting opportunities, it also carries risks including smart contract vulnerabilities and impermanent loss. Check our DeFi guide for a thorough walkthrough.

Bitcoin and Ethereum are both blockchain networks, but they serve different primary purposes. Bitcoin was designed as a peer-to-peer digital currency and store of value — "digital gold." It focuses on security and scarcity (capped at 21 million coins). Ethereum, on the other hand, is a programmable blockchain platform designed to run smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps). Ethereum enables the entire DeFi ecosystem, NFTs, and much more. Think of Bitcoin as digital money and Ethereum as a decentralized computing platform that also has its own currency (ETH).

You can start with cryptocurrency with virtually any amount. Unlike traditional stocks, cryptocurrencies are divisible into very small fractions — you can buy $10 or even $1 worth of Bitcoin. Many exchanges have minimum purchase amounts as low as $1-$10. We recommend starting small, perhaps $50-$100, as you learn the ropes. This allows you to experience the process of buying, storing, and managing crypto without significant financial risk. As you gain knowledge and confidence, you can gradually increase your investment based on your personal financial situation and risk tolerance.
