Sega May Implement NFTs in the Upcoming “Super Game” Project

The Japanese video game company has given some more insight into its highly anticipated gaming initiative.

Sega’s motives in terms of blockchain technology adoption were only speculative as fans got hyped on the promised “Super Game” which, back in 2021, was said to be released in the next five years.

Even more so, in December of 2021, the video game company trademarked the term “Sega NFT“, which obviously got some fans excited, but others were riled up as the NFT market started to gain mainstream popularity.

Interestingly enough, Sega’s job listing website featured a recent interview with Shuji Utsumi, who is the Executive VP of Sega. The games news platform VGC translated the interview from Japanese, unveiling Sega’s intentions to launch a new AAA title through a “comprehensive range of technologies.”

While this doesn’t really suggest anything related to NFTs or blockchain, the VP went on by saying that gaming has become more of a culture where people either play or watch video games. Therefore, the company will attempt to bring the two together.

On top of that, Masayoshi Kikuchi, who is the Producer at Sega, reiterated the VP’s statement, highlighting the connection between social networking and gaming. He stated:

“It is a natural extension for the future of gaming that it will expand to involve new areas such as cloud gaming and NFT. We are also developing SuperGame from the perspective of how far different games can be connected to each other.”

Other gaming-focused tech giants have also shown interest in blockchain initiatives. Back in January, Microsoft announced the acquisition of Activision Blizzard and hinted at a metaverse gaming platform.
